AASB 8 Operating Segment 
This Standard applies to annual reporting period beginning on or after January 1, 2009. When 
an entity applies this standard to an annual reporting period beginning before January 1, 
2009, it shall disclose the facts in notes to accounts.

Operating segment is the component of business for which separate financial information is 
prepared. Operating segment is a component which is engaged in earning revenue and 
incurring expenses, whose operating results are reviewed regularly to make decision about 
the allocation of resources to the segment and for assessing the performance of segments.  
An operating segment has a manger that is directly accountable to and manages direct contact 
with chief decision officer to discuss the operating activities and financial results of the 
operating segment. 
An entity is required to report and disclose separate information about each operating 
segments. An entity is required to disclose information about each segment unless the 
segments have similar economic characteristics and if the segments are similar in each of the 
following areas: 
1. Nature of product and service 
2. Nature of production process
