	Dinki Mini, a term, which has its origin from the Congolese word ‘ndingi’ means lamentation or a funeral song. Dinkies are considered to be celebratory occasions. Although the dance is closely associated with death and lamentation for the passing away of dear ones, the music played during the dance is exceptionally lively, joyous well as exciting, and entertaining. The main aim behind these dance performances is to cheer up the bereaved family, friends, and relatives of their dear member who has died recently. During the initial days of its origin, the Dinki Mini dance was performed openly throughout slavery. However, later on, the performances were restricted to certain days and places. Currently, the Dinki Mini dance is performed during the Jamaican annual festival celebration. The performances usually take place in the parishes, which include St. Andrew, St. Ann, St. Mary, and Portland.
