Series and Parallel Circuits
Is a series or parallel circuit is more powerful?
Claim:
Parallel circuit seems to be more powerful as per the theoretical part studied.
Where to confirm this, it is necessary to perform lab experiment. In this lab online simulator is used to find out the working of series and parallel circuits.
Performing this experiment will help to identify the assumption made is the right or wrong. The pictures taken and calculation made from this lab will be an evidence to support the assumption.
Firstly, the connection are made for series circuit then for parallel circuit and voltage, cu
ent, total resistance, power will be calculated for the same.
Series Circuit Connection:
In series connection more than one resistance are connected in such a way that cu
ent flowing through them is common whereas voltage across them may be different.
Total resistance of the circuit(RT):
RT= R1 +R2 Ω
Cu
ent flowing through battery:
Voltage across R1:
V1= I* R1
Similarly,
V2= I* R2
V3= I* R3
Power Calculation:
Power = V*I
In this experiment using online simulator, in fig.1, I have taken three resistances each of 15Ω, in fig.2 three resistances each of 20Ω and in fig.3 three resistances each of 25Ω.
Series circuit for 15Ω resistor:
Fig.1: Series circuit for 15Ω resisto
Total resistance of the circuit(RT):
RT = R1 +R2 +R3 +R4Ω
= 15+15+15+15
RT =60 Ω
Cu
ent flowing through battery:
Voltage across R1:
V1= I* R1= 0.15*15=2.25 V
Similarly,
Voltage across R2=...
