As a child develops the fundamental frame of perception in his or her early childhood and spends the highest amount of time with their respective families, they are deeply affected by the nature of the family, generating both positive and negative outcomes. 1. Comprehending Social Work with Children and Family Through the Use of Theories
    Among the theories of social work that are concerned with the wellbeing of children and the families, System theory is one of the most popular one. As mentioned by Maynard, Boutwell, Vaughn, Naeger and Dell (2018), in case of System theory, the entire environment and its internal happenings are considered as the components of a system that affects each other and collectively influence the behaviour of persons, especially children during their development. On the other hand, the Psychodynamic Theory tends to consider the reason instead of considering the influence of a system, justifying the reason for different conditions in the same environment and living atmosphere. As stated by Asakura, Bogo, Good and Power (2018), psychodynamic theory of social work focuses on the fact that a person behaves not only on the influence of the external environment but also gets motivated, depressed and manipulated by the inner consciousness of the mind. It is made up of conscious, sub-conscious and unconscious sections of the mind regulated id, ego and superego. A person feeling mentally healthy from inner mind would maintain a healthy family life and smooth child development despite much adversity, however. A person’s inner conflict on the other hand makes the person very unstable in terms of providing normalcy of life, which is mad evident in the given case study.
The theories of social work help in directing the initiatives in the right direction that makes them effective in terms of

    In the given context of the case study, the children Luke and Sally are found to be in an atmosphere where they are subjected to face domestic violence, conflicting issues and potential separation of their parents at a very young age. Luke is the elder child of Ga
y and Bronwyn and is in school, while his sister Sally is a Down syndrome patient having very little mental development due to her chromosomal abnormality. As assessed by Van Riper, Knafl, Roscigno, and Knafl (2018), having a mentally challenged sibling in house makes the mental development of other child more challenging. As Ga
y and Bronwyn argue over matters and drinks in front of their children, the children get used to seeing people getting drunk and eventually leading to fight. Luke sees his father as a dominant male, while his mother is perceived as a submissive female, creating negative attitude in him, which is evident from his show of anger on his mother.
    The attitude and experience of the children in the case study has deep relation with the psychological theories of Sigmund Freud’s Psychosexual Development Theory. As mentioned by Willmott, Ryan, She
etts, Woodfield and McDermott (2018), in case of Freud’s theory, the children are seemed to be attached to their parents who are of different sex, which means that boys are naturally inclined towards their mothers, while girls love their father. However, in the given case study, it is found that Luke is more attached to his father than his mother, which shows the abnormality of child development.
In case of Sally, her illness makes her passive about the attachment, however, with the use of Erikson’s Eight Stage Theory, the activity of Luke and Sally can be explained.
