OBJECTIVE- assessing the health literacy of an English speaking adult using SAHL-E score.
SUBJECT DETAILS- 38 year’s old adult, male.
METHOD- 18 flash cards using the SAHL-E table of medical terms and two associated words (the key and the distractor) were made. The subject was asked to read the top word clear and loud, and then to select a word which was closely associated to the medical term from the options. He was instructed to avoid guessing. A clip board with the score sheet was maintained. One point was given for the co
ect answer and a proper pronunciation of the terms.
RESULTS- the subject scored 16 points, indicating good health literacy.
BARRIERS- in this particular case the only difficulty faced was to express his literacy levels...
