1. Structural and Functional Changes Responsible for Jordan’s Weight Loss
Crohn’s disease also known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is one of the major reasons behind Jordan’s weight loss. This is majorly because of the fact that inflammation caused by this disease may spread deep within the layers of affected bowl area or tissue. Further, Crohn’s disease may reflect variations with respect to the area affected. In some patients such as Jordan, only the last segment of small intestine, also known as, ileum may be affected while in other cases, colon may be the only confined area under this disease. Torres, Mehandru, Colombel and Peyrin-Biroulet (2017) presented that, weight loss may be observed in about 1 out of 5 individuals suffering from this disease. 
Loss of appetite is one of the major rationales behind weight loss and there could be umpteen numbers of factors affecting Jordan’s appetite. It has been reported that Jordan experienced number of exacerbation due to Crohn’s disease. This condition can also be associated with flare symptoms where patient may suffer from excessive pain, swelling and other symptoms reflecting worsening of the medical condition. Another major reason behind weight loss could be the phenomenon of food aversion, due to which patient may associate pain with eating. Jordan could have been avoiding eating in order to avoid pain and other unpleasant symptoms associated with the disease.
Likewise, Jordan was being medicated with infliximab and this could have resulted into change in appetite, nutrient deficiencies and change in the taste. Further, it would be essential to consider that leptin and ghrelin are some of the hormones responsible for initiating hunger.
