(i) Introduction
Food democracy states that members of agro-food system have equal opportunities to take part for shaping food system. It also focuses on gaining adequate knowledge in different and relevant ways to design and operate system. In addition to this, the study also deals with a critical understanding of Remaking the North American Food System and Local Food System in Northeast Iowa. The study effectively highlights the sophisticated key issues that are encountered in food system. In addition to this, there must be proper ability to interpret relevant information along with support of evidence to support the findings. Furthermore, there has been a proper justification of the findings and information acquired from the relevant sources. There have been several public health issues due to different types of food systems being followed. Health issues including diabetes, cancer and osteoporosis (CDC, 2013b) are primary diet related risks that are related to overconsumption of food or not maintaining healthy food diets.
Critical understanding of chosen framework and politics of transforming food supply framework
In recent time, it has been observed that food attracts growing scrutiny and gives many people pause. As analysed by Both et al. (2018), there is a major concern about where the food come from and what the implications are. Food democracy ensures that there must be proper food supply to every people may them vary in caste or religion. In this context, there has been a critical understanding of Remaking of North American Food System and Local Food System in Northeast Iowa (Stevenson et al. 2007).
In association to North American Food System, it has been found that news of food and agriculture and stories of media has highlighted about different health issues involving abundance, deprivation, pleasure and risks. As observed by Stevenson et al. (2007), Remaking of North American Food System has effectively examined the resurgence of interest to rebuild link between agricultural production and consumption of food.
On the other hand, Local Food System in Northeast Iowa, it has been described about the multi-stakeholder collaboration in Northeast Iowa via using different types of system leadership that is called ‘Shepherding’. As influenced by Walsh-Dilley, et al. (2016),this helps in engaging different communities to create changes in food system. Local food system of Iowa is complex and thus is important for local, regional and state economies. This type of food systems stimulates and diversifies economy. The dedication towards Local Food System of Iowa is expressed through their performance in collaborative way (Campbell et al. 2016).
Public Health issues
In order to mitigate the health issues, Local Food System of Northeast Iowa has taken initiatives for Food & Fitness Initiatives. As commented by Sonnino et al. (2016), the communities of health workers have come together to promote health conditions of public by increasing healthy and locally growing food. The community members of the Local Food System of Northeast Iowa has realised agricultural bounty of the region where 1% of food is purchased in Northeast Iowa is locally sourced. As observed by Pe
ett and Jackson (2015), in the year 2006, the Leopold Centre for Sustainable Agriculture caters to recognise that Northeast Iowa offered a great opportunity to improve accessibility towards food that is locally grown. Regional Food System Working Group of Northeast Iowa Food and Farm (NIFF) Coalition has a diversified coalition of stakeholders that was emerged and represented youths, farmers and educators. This sustains a significant link between availability of local grown food and health (Sche
et al. 2016)
The Northeast Iowa Coalition covers a large area of geographic regions and thus distance of the areas can also act as a ba
ier to health of the people. Coalition leaders are served as a
idge-builders for mitigating the issues of public health.
Contradictorily, Remaking the North American Food System, it has been found that the US food system lies within a complex nexus of social, political, cultural and economical factors (Stevenson et al. 2007). In addition to this, there are many other dynamic pressures growth in population, u
anisation, socio-economic inequalities and climatic disruptions. These respective conditions cause great constraint towards public health issues and environment. These factors play a great role in examining the challenges of making food supply safe, sustainable and nutritious. According to certain research, it has been found that cu
ent US food system is cu
ently unhealthy and this has created a great challenge towards health of public and is a challenge for environment also (Carney, 2016). US em
ace different policy reforms to transform food system into one that is in the support of public health.
(ii) Sophisticated understanding of key issues
In accordance to Galt et al. (2016), it has been observed that unhealthy eating habits have imposed a great harm to the health of the people. It is necessary for people to consume healthy food and eradicate life risking threats. According to the food system of...
