Introduction
Risk management is an important aspect and strategy that is important to be implemented in the context of a scenario. Risk management strategy provides the authorities or the government of the countries to ensure that they are able to mitigate any evident risk in their organisation or country and accordingly provide relief services to the people.
It allows the organisation or the government of the country to ensure that they are capable of minimising the damage caused by different forms of hazards. This assignment is based on the analysis of a major cyclone in Australia, its participants for providing response and the according risk management framework to mitigate the negative impacts.
Summary of the Event
On 9th March, Queensland coast witnessed a cyclonic storm that affected many areas including different residences, resorts, rented premises and Caravan parks. It was evident and previously forecasted that a cyclonic storm was going to hit at 100 knots, which was related to different media channels and service stations. It was evident that Sunday morning about 150 km per hour storm was evident in the coastal areas. This affected around 70 houses, which was inhabitable. It was also evident that hundred and nineteen houses were damaged.
Around 920 people have been evacuated to the Brisbane sports ground emergency accommodation centre. However, there was a shortage in electric supply and road communication was blocked due to the uprooting of the trees. Due to the extreme cyclonic weather soil de
is is contaminated the water supply and water from the septic tanks also entered into the water supply. This resulted in the contamination of water supply and led to the disruption in the overall sanitation facilities at the Brisbane sports ground emergency accommodation centre.
Describing Major Public Health Issue Arising from the Scenario
As an outcome of the severe cyclonic storm, different public health issues may be evident. These are discussed below:
Due to the heavy water flush and the high speed of the cyclonic storm it was evident that around 70 houses in the coastal areas were declared to be inhabitable thereby leading to the homelessness of a large number of people who had their residential facilities in the coastal areas. It was also evident that as an outcome of the inhabitable nature of these houses a severe economic depression was evident in the overall economy of the country and the people residing in the coastal areas of Queensland and Brisbane.
Due to the severe speed of the cyclone, it was evident that the damage to the houses was so high that around 119 houses in the coastal areas of Queensland were declared as permanently damaged. This allowed no scope of any residential facility in the Queensland coastal areas and a large number of people had to be shifted to the Brisbane sports ground emergency accommodation centre. As an outcome of these instances, it was evident that around 920 people were given shelter in the Brisbane sports ground emergency accommodation centre.
It was evident that the centre did not have the instances of accommodating a significant number of people with their decided daily activities due to the lack of a formal risk assessment plan by the government of Queensland in Australia. As an outcome of the huge crowding of the Brisbane ground emergency accommodation centre, scarcity of food and contamination of water was evident (Erickson et al. 2019).
It was found that due to the heavy thrashing of the wind and water the different water reserves or rather the water facilities were contaminated with the soil de
is due to the water runoff and soil runoff. This severely affected the overall health issue in the scenario. As an outcome of the contamination of water, different diseases may be evident including that of typhoid and...
