Please follow each Instructions below for this HR/GSR
Lab report
- REQUIRED HEADINGS: • Title Page • Introduction • Methods • Results • Discussion •
References • Figures (Thus, no procedure is needed to include)
- Title- HR/GSR Lab Report
- INTRODUCTION: • Introduce topic: • What is the polygraph? What does it measure?
How effective is it? • What does previous research say about the polygraph and its
effectiveness? • Why is this an important topic? • What (in general) will this experiment
do? (don’t discuss specific procedural details) • What is the expected outcome? • Need
at least one peer-reviewed in-text citation used in this section
- METHODS: • Define independent and dependent variables • Within or between design
and why • Describe participants and how they were grouped, if applicable • What
equipment was used in the study? • What did you do (steps followed, in paragraph
form)?
- RESULTS: • Report: • Means • SDs(from excel below) • Significance of t or F statement
with p-values • Include a reference to your Figure • Don’t interpret your results here, just
eport them
- DISCUSSION • Interpret results (don’t restate numbers from the results section) • Why
were the results significant or non-significant • Connect to info discussed in Introduction •
Do these results line up with your expectations from the intro and previous research?
Why do you think they did or did not line up? • Connect back to the citation(s) used in the
intro • Limitations and how they may have impacted results • Real world applications,
future directions, etc.
- FIGURES • Include “Figures” section (this goes at the end, AFTER References) •
Include one APA style figure depicting means for lie and truth conditions (this will be a
simple bar graph) • Do not forget the “Figures” header and APA-style caption for the
figure. PLEASE DON’T INCLUDE FIGURES OTHER THAN THE BAR GRAPHS,
WHICH IS PROVIDED IN EXCEL BELOW.
- FORMATTING: • APA STYLE • Times new roman • 12pt font • No colons after headers
• 1 inch margins • Italicize statistical a
eviations (i.e. M, SD, n, t, F, p) • PAST TENSE
(because you have already done this study) • Everything in paragraph form, no bullets •
Anytime you think “should I cite this,” you should. Follow APA (cite anything not common
knowledge).
