Performance-enhancing drugs (PED) or Performance-enhancing substances are drugs that are used to improve some form of activity in the human body artificially. These drugs are of various types and can enhance different bodily functions. The drugs specifically used by athletes to enhance their performance are called ergogenic aids (Gregory, & Fitch, 2007). Performance-enhancing drugs can be used for different reasons. Many of these drugs are actually designed for medicinal use. However, athletes use them to improve their physical performance and enhance their sports career (Orchard, Healey, Fricker, Burke & White, 2006). Most Performance-enhancing drugs appear harmless, however, but they can lead to more than just side-effects, event.
The reason athletes use drugs is different for each one, however, the most common reasons for their use are stress and aspiration (Lazuras, Barkoukis, Rodafinos & Tzo
atzoudis, 2010). Athletes are often under a large amount of pressure before events, since the competition is always fierce. More than just pressure from the competition, athletes also hope to win medals for their countries and earn a lot of fame and money (Houlihan, 2002). The career of athletes is short-lived, so in order to accomplish their dreams, they have only a very short time. While practice and training
