	Australian political discussions were pervaded by an appeal to ban the burqa (the wearing of Islamic face covering) since homes were raided by police in Brisbane and Sydney on the 18 September. These homes belonged to the alleged Islamist extremists. The Palmer United Party Senator Jacqui Lambie and Liberal Senator Cory Bernardi connected both the suspected persecution to the burqa of women and fundamentalism. Tweet by Bernardi was linked by the characterisation of the burqa given by Lambie as “a national security risk”. Prime Minister Tony Abbott has also presented his outlook on the matter (The Conversation, 2014). He said that he finds burqa an equally defying type of apparel and honestly, he wished that it was not worn but since they believe in free society and it should not be government’s business to tell people what they can and cannot wear.
