Imagine that you have decided to open a small ice cream stand on campus called "Ice-Campusades." You are very excited because you love ice cream (delicious!) and this is a fun way for you to apply your business and economics skills! Here is the first month's scenario--you order the same number (and the same variety) of ice creams each day from the ice cream suppliers, and your ice creams are always marked at $1.50 each. However, you notice that there are days when ice creams remain unsold but other days when there are not enough ice creams for the number of customers.
Use your knowledge of the factors that cause shifts in demand, and in a multi-paragraph essay, provide at least three reasons why ice cream sales fluctuate in this manner. (Apply only the factors you think are applicable to explaining this scenario.) Now assume that a month later, the school allows a competing student the right to sell ice creams on school property. (The number of students on campus remains largely unchanged.) What do you think will happen to the price of ice cream at your campus? Explain in detail.

In the given case, an ice cream parlor has been opened for which the ordering quantity tends 
to be same. However, the sales tend to fluctuate a lot due to which on certain days there is 
shortage of supply while on the other there is excess of demand. The fluctuation of the sales 
of the ice-cream could be explained on the basis of variable demand for the ice cream which 
instead of remaining constant tends to wary. It is known that ice cream shop is located inside 
the campus, hence on days when the university is on off, it would be expected that less 
students, staff or faculty would visit the campus (Mankiw, 2014). Since, the number of 
visitors to the campus are lesser, hence there would lower demand for ice creams also. Hence, 
the supply needs to be adjusted keeping this pivotal factor in mind. 
Additionally, there would be variations of weather on a given day and if the weather at the 
given time when the students are not having their lectures is exceptionally hot, then the 
demand for ice cream would be higher. On the other hand, if the weather outside is relatively 
cooler, then the demand for ice cream would be comparatively higher. It is essential that the 
supply needs to be ordered keeping the expected weather forecast in mind (Krugman & 
Wells, 2013). For instance, if on a given day it rains, it is possible that sales would be 
exceptionally low as the weather would be cooler and also there might be tendency on the 
part of the students, staff and professor to rush to their respective homes. Similarly, on certain 
days the weather may be exceptionally warm or cooler which would result in daily 
fluctuations of sale.
