This report aims to define and discuss the role of community development workers. In addition, some of the core values, which underpin the works done by community workers, have been defined and discussed. In order to

Community development has been defined as a procedure in which the population that has been excluded and marginalised from society are enabled in terms of obtaining self-confidence and regain their position in the mainstream (Green & Haines, 2015). Community development is about inspiring this population to take proactive parts in activities to
ing a transition to their situation and to cope with the issues facing their community. Thereby, it can be said that community work is associated with the empowerment and development of communities by facilitating proactive participation of the population in terms of eliminating the hurdles facing them in a collective manner.
There can be a variety of contexts where community work may be applied to such as in neighbourhoods with local authorities, partnership groups and state agencies to focus on a specific group (Coburn & Gormally, 2018). The main function of community workers is to represent the necessities and voices of specific population groups, as well as, disadvantaged communities to the authorities or policymakers at both national and local levels.
Role of Community Workers
The most basic definition of community workers, as suggested by Surjaningrum, Minas, Jorm and Kakuma (2018), is that community workers are the individuals that strive to enhance the quality of life of disadvantaged groups through fostering transition and giving the opportunity of self-help in the context of communities. As discussed previously, community workers focus on individuals and/or groups that are excluded and marginalised from the mainstay of society to

Furthermore, they also develop services, as well as, activities in order to develop confidence and aspiration among the target groups. In this context, it may be said that community workers establish a link between a vast range of local voluntary service providers, local and/or national authorities and the target communities. The roles of community workers can be classified into five primary categories, which include the role of organisers, challengers, advocates, developers, as well as, supporters.
In the primary phases of their activities, community workers adopt the directive role of organisers. They take on the responsibility to send out publicity, a

angements. As stated by Miller (2015), another one of the chief aims of community workers is to

This involves questioning and struggling against the contemporary inequalities in the context of the equal distribution of resources and power to the population groups. They have to challenge practices, policies and prejudices that act as damaging elements for the disadvantaged population groups and give rise to discrimination.
Although community workers are expected to empower target groups to speak for themselves, in some cases, they need to advocate for them due to the presence of pressures and constraints. This is especially applicable in situations when there is a lack of time in the process of decision-making. Community workers also act as developers in the sense that community workers are expected to encourage the target population groups to achieve new capabilities and to improve their cu
