Veradius Neo mobile C-arm with flat detecto
Trade Name: Veradius Neo mobile C-arm with flat detector
Classification Name: Mobile X-ray system
Classification panel: Radiology
Device Class: Class II
Manufacturer: Philips
Safe Operation guide
Excess dose of x-ray radiation is harmful to the human body because it can damage human cells, especially
DNA which contains all the information needed for the biological activities to take place inside the human
ody.
The ionised/x-ray radiation can damage the DNA.
Human cells are capable of repairing the cells that are damaged to certain level.
At low doses, the damage caused by, such as radiation hitting us that are coming from atmosphere and extra-
te
estrial (aka background radiation) are repaired quickly, but damage caused by high-dose radiation is are
not repaired quickly and sometimes cells fail to function.
Radiation effect can be categorised into
Prompt effect --------- this includes radiation sickness and burns due to the large dose exposure for a short
time
Delayed effect -------- such as cancer etc. which are long-term exposure effect
A common misunderstanding is that exposure causes contamination to a person. Contamination occurs only
when a person is in contact with the radioactive material (like powder or liquid). X-rays are not radiation
from radioactive material they are just electro -magnetic radiations
X-rays are operated at very high voltage than the domestic voltage so must be considered potentially
hazardous, hence only properly trained person should handle/operate the x-ray devices and even in case of
epairs.
X-ray machine should not be operator in a closed area or room without any proper ventilation, because the
components in an x-ray machine can get overheated
The operator should use the maximum source skin distance (SSD) , distance< 15"(38cm) should not be
used and distance 12"(30cm) is not at all recommended
The operator should stand at least 6 feet from the patient, the tube and useful beam.
Highlights of modern portable x-ray machine
they are very safe to operate because
 They used low energy/low-dose
 Highly pencil beam of x-ray radiation
 X-rays are present only when the x-ray beam is activated
 The vast majority (~ 99.9%) of the x-ray radiation are abso
ed by the patient & the image detector and the
left is harmless to the operator
 The scattered x-ray from the patient’s body is of very low energy or intensity and the intensity decreases as
square of the distance, if the operator maintains some distance from the patient, s/he is safe .
 High radiation shielding is given to the equipment
 In mobile x-ray , the beam is projected for less than a second and maintaining a distance of 6 feet or more
provides adequate protection but in case of mobile CT...
