Detailed Introduction
The key to any profession is to understand how one’s strengths can be used to maximise their potential in that particular job setting. The SWOT analysis that way helps us to understand what skills we have to learn to maximise and what skills we need to work on improving. I am a Student Nurse at Queen Hospital and King George’s Hospital. The Gi
s Reflective Cycle was instrumental in this process, which helped me to understand how I would act in situations that as a professional, I came across.
This clear imagining of the situation allows one to understand what skills need to be used and whether the person possesses those skills (Delgado et al. 2017). It also helps to look at the same situation from the person’s perspective and understand if their talents could have helped them excel at the situation or not. According to the SWOT analysis, the skills, which need to be improved upon, are the person’s areas of weaknesses (Ladd et al. 2020). As they are key skills for the profession, it is important that these skills be improved upon.

Description: About Using SWOT Analysis
SWOT analysis is a technique mainly used for strategic planning to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of a person or organisation. The concept was first introduced to aid project planning and business competition. The same concept is applied here to analyse my core strengths weaknesses, theoretically, along with identifying the threats and opportunities, which I may face in the future from various external factors. The key focus of the SWOT analysis will be to determine the weakness and threats so that those can be mitigated accordingly (Ding et al. 2018). Similarly, the strength and weakness identified in this case will allow me to be more self-aware and use the strengths judiciously to make better use of the opportunities ahead.
Feelings and Thinking: Based on Outcome of SWOT Analysis
Registered Nurses are nurses, who have graduated from a nursing program and meet the requirements of the country, in which they are practicing. The roles of nurses differ in various departments depending on their rank and what department they work in. The main job for nurses is to check up and work with patients in the implementation of their treatments. From my SWOT, I could understand that my functions help in the treatment plan of the patient. I monitor the patient’s vital signs and progress. I monitor if the patient is responding well to the treatment and if there are any concerning behaviours or signs.
I administer the patient’s medication and create treatment plans for them. I also answer patients’ questions and inform them of their diagnosis and any information the patient may want to know about in regards to the diagnosis. I believe my strengths are important because I assist the doctor with procedures that may include surgery. Apart from these, I perform wound and skin care. As supported by Durkin, Usher and Jackson (2019), they also draw blood and collect the laboratory work, which the doctor needs, to deduce their diagnosis. Nurses in different departments may have additional roles, for example, paediatric nurses have to work with children and that requires a different set of skills. Paediatric nurses may need to be more patient and have to such as working with kids (Hanna, 2017).
Nurse seems to be the best profession for the student as an individual due to their desire to help people. This trait is very important for a nurse as this often acts as motivators when drawing up treatment plans. Besides, strong will is another characteristic of theirs, which can make sure they are an exceptional nurse (George, Rahmatinick and Ramos, 2018). Nurses and doctors like most professionals in the healthcare industry deal with death on a daily basis. It takes strong will to understand that is part of the job and the nurses should not blame themselves or let the patient’s demise deter them from helping other patients to the best of their capabilities.
Communication Skills is also very important as it allows me to help patients feel at ease and comfortable. Most illnesses are distressing and unknown to the public; nurses have to use a combination of their empathy and their communication skills to help set the patient at ease. Care often forms the driving force behind nurses wanting to improve treatment plans. It also amplifies their need to pay attention to details (Durkin, Gu
utt and Carson, 2018). Their care ensures that they try every method to ensure the patient is able to recover and live a healthy life.
Evaluation: Strengths and Weaknesses out of SWOT
My strengths include teamwork, strong will, care, empathy, communication and attention to details. Each strength contributes to them becoming a successful professional nurse. The important quality any nurse needs is to be able to care and be a team player. As argued by Tyer-Viola (2019), nurses, who do not care about their patients, will not do as well as nurses who do. Similarly, it is important to work in a team environment, which would help a nurse to grow professionally, learn and even conduct their job judiciously. Nurses who care always go to extra effort into making sure that patients recover and are healthy. This is a quality, which can be both a positive and a negative depending on how much of their treatment the nurse lets it dictate. Nurses, who care too much, may take it personally when the patient does not recover or if the patient passes away. If nurses blame each death on themselves, it will be hard for them to treat other patients better. This could easily lead to burnout or depression.
