Commentary (PAC) Guide

Task Description:
You are expected to engage in all commentary tasks associated with the unit.
You will be assessed on the quality of your analysis and the way you support this with
evidence and references. Your commentaries are to be posted to the relevant Wiki activity
(called PAC) in Moodle.
This assessment is worth 30%
The questions and word limits are as follows: - dates to be notified in Moodle:
1. After reading the editorial article by Tait, McMichael and Hanna “Determinants of
health: the contribution of the natural environment” in the ANZJPH journal, Vol. 38,
No.2, 2014 (link to eReserve in Moodle) along with the chapters of “Making Healthy
Places” listed as reading in Module 1 and 2, respond to the editorial, as follows

2. How would you describe the concept of community design as discussed in “Making
Healthy Places” and in the lectures for the unit up to and including Module 3? If we
want to improve the UC campus based on community design principles and using the
findings of your audit (along with those done by other students in the unit), what are
three vital things that would need to be done?

3. How does climate change affect coastal communities? Give some examples showing
contrasting impacts in different parts of the world. Discuss the cu
ent and possible
future public health impacts.

4. Choose two large cities - one Australian and one from another country. Compare and
discuss these two cities covering the main factors of relevance to an assessment of
whether they are healthy and sustainable places. You need to focus on the public
health issues as well as on sustainability. What policy response is called for in each of
these cities?
