Diabetes
Diabetes, clinically known as Diabetes Mallitus, is a metabolic disorder caused by defects in
insulin secretion, resulting in high blood sugar level.
Blood sugar or glucose is derived from the food that we consume, and is ca
ied in the
loodstream to the cells in the body to supply energy. While glucose is an essential enzyme, its
quantity in the blood needs to be regulated. This function is performed by Insulin. Insulin is a
hormone produced by the Beta cells in the Pancreas. Insulin’s role is to maintain the glucose
level in the blood to an optimum level that is neither too high nor too low. A normal blood sugar
level is between 80 -120.
In diabetes, the pancreas either stops producing insulin, or does not produce enough insulin to
optimally regulate blood sugar level, due to which the sugar level in the blood rises.
The various symptoms of diabetes are:

ï‚· Numbness in the feet
ï‚· Weight loss
ï‚· Blu

ï‚· Nausea
