Identifying ethical dilemma in health care management
The ethical dilemma is discussed in context to health care management at Alzheimer Europe. This is a non-governmental organisation established for developing awareness among general public regarding all forms of dementia care and treatment. The organisation is working on the notion of ‘person-centred dementia care’ developing standards for wellbeing and betterment of people. This implies that dementia care should not be offered in general manner rather it should be suited to the needs and expectations of people that their rights and dignity is respected regardless of the extent of cognitive impairment among people (Wilson, 2013).
However, there is general consensus on this belief that dementia care should be offered suited to the needs and wishes of people through respecting their rights and dignity. But, actual practice of delivering care varies considerably among as health care professionals are facing wide range ethical dilemmas in providing person-centred care to people. Sometimes, ethical dilemma scenario becomes so intense that it becomes difficult for health care professionals in offering right care and treatment to people.
The ethical dilemmas arise at several instances at health care organisation. For instance, health care professionals consider providing care at the utmost concern and priority area to the personnel but often face difficulty in balancing wellbeing and rights of other people or dependents of patients as friends and relatives. The co-residents, friends and relatives, sometimes, create unnecessary pressure or burden on health care professionals in terms of asking for quick recovery, doubting on treatment therapy or procedure, blaming for unnecessary cost burden, etc (Crane & Matten, 2010).
