For this final online assignment, you are invited to again explore the Grand Challenges
website (link on D2L). They are organized into three primary categories – (1) Individual
and family well-being, (2) Stronger social fabric, and (3) Just society.
Each category houses four to five of the twelve grand challenges. For each
challenge, you will find a brief description, an issue paper, and policy
recommendations.
Choose three grand challenges that you find most intriguing or that you would like to
learn more about, and read the issue brief including policy recommendations for each.
Write a brief (1-2 page) reflection as you consider one of the three grand challenges that
you have read about. Submit this in the Online Assignment 4 Assignment Folder. This is
an exercise in developing a deeper knowledge of the greatest social needs and issues of
our time and in how you have the capacity to respond to one of these needs as a
professional social worker.
Which grand challenge did you select and why?
How do you understand your role as a future social worker and advocate in the
context of the greatest challenges of our times? In the context of the grand
challenge you selected for this reflection exercise? Do the policy recommendations offer any direction for you as advocates and
macro-practice social workers?
Finally, work with your small group case study group to construct and finish the
development of your final case study presentation.
