Roles of Management after Transformation
The management of people is an art and science, and everyone cannot be the master. It
has become even more crucial as in the era of milenials. One cannot deal with them the
way they have been treated. The effective managers follow a certain set of roles to ensure
that they are managing the team effectively. Deming has proposed a set of 14 roles for
the managers. This paper tends to analyze the set of role proposed by Deming using his
variance theory.
Deming’s Roles of Management
1. A manager understands himself the meaning of a system and conveys the same to
his/her subordinates. Primarily, he explains what are the aims of the system. Also he tries
to teach his subordinates that how the team could support in achieving those aims. The
people may be from various backgrounds and fields but they have to work in a similar
system, and they have to adjust themselves according to the system but should rather
expect the system to work according to them. The variance takes place when people start
working according to them rather according to the organization (Deming, 2000, pp.126).

2. The managers are capable of helping his subordinates to look themselves as part of
the system rather different from that. They should work in full cooperation in all of
preceding as well as following stages for optimizing the efforts of all involved stages for
the achievement of the aim. The variance takes place when the people start seeing
themselves as different component and work accordingly. They should work in closely in
a team and make collective efforts to achieve the aim. The leader is the one who can
ensure this (Deming, 2000, pp.126).

3. No two people are the same and manager understands this fact very well and tries to
create common interest and challenge for all of the people under him or her. His biggest
challenge is to balance the personal as well as professional life. The leader should
optimize education, family background, scopes, and abilities. The manager works in the
est interest of all the people to have a better coordination. The whole exercise is not
