Answer: Distribution of variables in any continuous series may be conceived as an outcome
of interaction between two oppositely acting hypothetical forces: a stronger centripetal force
concentrating the values at the centre of the distribution series and a weaker centrifugal force
pushing the values away from the centre. As a consequence, most of the values of a
continuous series aggregate in the centre of the distribution series. This trend is termed as
central tendency is responsible for the location of averages at the centre of a normal
distribution system. Averages in fact measure the central tendency, and represent the most
important dimension of a distribution series, in the most condensed form. Averages are
essentially of three types: mean, median and mode.
