Discussion 15
All right! This is your final self-analysis of the semester. The instructions for Self-Analysis 4 are below.
Assignment
For Self-Analysis 4, we’ll use the same format and many of the same questions we used in the other
self-analyses. That means you should write an essay (approx XXXXXXXXXXwords). One way to do this is
to treat each question as the topic for a separate paragraph. Your essay should have an introduction, a
thesis, a body, and a conclusion. Each paragraph should have a topic sentence. You should use
examples from your speech to support your points.
+Where do you see the most improvement since the beginning of the semester?
+What went well?
+What turned out better than you expected?
+What still needs work?
+What steps will you take to make those improvements?
+Why do you think your topic was appropriate for this assignment, the biggest and most challenging of
the speeches we do in the class?
+How did you hope the outside resources would enhance your speech? Did you use them
successfully?
+How do you feel about your use of research and the way you incorporated it into your speech? Is it
clear to your audience why your sources should be trusted? Did you use sources that confirmed your
point of view, or did you research with an open mind?
+How did you decide on what visual aids to use and where to use them? What did you hope they
would add to your speech? Do you think they were successful?
Criteria for Evaluation
As usual, I’m happy to give full credit to anyone who completes the assignment, but I expect you to
demonstrate critical thinking and to write with discipline. If you do not have an essay, I will deduct
points. If you write an essay but do not sufficiently develop the paragraphs/ideas, you could lose
points. By “do not sufficiently develop” I mean that the paragraphs do little more than provide one- or
two-sentence answers to the questions. Paragraphs provide support, often in the form of specific

examples. Remember, I mostly want to see you thinking critically. I also recommend using MLA or APA
style and formatting. Your instructors notice these things, I promise.
