Essay Question: How is sexuality used as a form of racial power that is applied through gender? To answer this:
Choose a racial group (it could be African American, Asian American, or Latinx American that we discussed or you could choose a specific group with those (such as 1st generation African immigrants, Southeast Asian/Indian American, or Brazilian) or another altogether.
Choose a quote from any of our course readings (or your Annotated Bibliography research (be sure to give the author and title)) that defines a specific way that sexuality is used to police/control/dominate each gender differently in that particular social group.
Choose an example from any class reading, art, film/tv, internet, your own or another’s experience, historical or current event, or anything that shows your point.
Finally offer a suggestion about how to resist, change, challenge, etc. the form of power you are describing. This can be anything and can be directly related or coming from your example (in other words you could discuss an example of resistance to power) or your suggestion could be more indirectly related in which you explain one way you think one could work against or otherwise negotiate the form of power you describe. Be sure to explain your answer a bit.
Don’t answer the question by simply saying sexuality is a form of racism for this group but, rather, give 1 or 2 specific examples of the ways that discourses of sex and sexuality work to define and delimit particular racial subjects in particular ways. (40 points)
