Introduction
Aboriginal and To
es Strait Islanders, who are inhabiting in Australia, famously categorised in indigenous group of people, had to face a number of challenges especially in the health care field. Their problems faced encompassed of poor health services provided, high rate of illiteracy, housing and living conditions are not properly facilitated, as lower level of income they often feel a condition of restrictions. They suffer from illiteracy, which therefore gives rise to unemployment as provided lower levels of education. As a result, this is increasing the suicidal rate, as of poorer health and below standard living condition, survival becomes a great challenge for them (Markwick et al. 2019).
Remote indigenous groups are also at high risk from natural hazards and therefore suffers from several health problems. Therefore, the mortality rate within this group is much higher. Especially after the a
ival of the European colonist the condition of these Aborigines were pathetic as they lost their control over almost everything and were not able to define their miserable conditions to anyone in the power. This paper will focus on the studies of environmental health problems associated with in this group.
Literature Review
As mentioned by the article Le Gal et al. (2020) it states that the remote indigenous group of people in Australia suffers a pathetic health condition than that of a non -indigenous group of Australian. As investigated by Australian Bureau of Statistics this northern te
itory of Australia suffers more from natural disasters as well as hazards and as result of poor medical facilities mortality rate was marked in greater rate. The Cardiometabolic related mortality are found higher here as most of the indigenous people suffers from diabetes, heart stroke, lungs problems, hyper tension and many more.
Therefore, in this regard Built environment exposure data was extracted from (SLAP) map that is Service Land Availability Program, which was maintained, by the northern te
itories group of land, environment and their planning department. This SLAP map identifies several communities, which was assigned to a category based on its purpose, status and functions. This category includes education, childcare, accommodation, industry, healthcare, infrastructure community, infrastructure power, transport, shelter and many more (Gooey et al. 2017). These are classified into healthful and unhealthful group. Healthful groups include the complete and finished infrastructure whereas unhealthful suggests the unfinished or disused buildings or infrastructures.
Lack of these healthful categorised built environments in these northern te
itory section often leads to life threatening Cardiometabolic related events, which results in high mortality rate. As mentioned by Daniel et al. (2011), the article clearly suggest that the indigenous group of people are identified with materially disadvantage and socio-political marginalised group therefore experiences cardiometabolic risk in their lives. The behavioural, psychosocial and stress axis pathway will explain the relationship between the risk conditions prevail within this group and the occu
ence of cardiometabolic disease. The environmental factors indirectly affect the behavioural aspect of these indigenous people, which in turn leads to obesity, diabetes and many other diseases. Due to poor, i
egular and unhealthy lifestyles, poor nutritional factors they often suffer from various diseases.
The physical environmental factors that affect them are the air, water, soil, land, temperature and noise pollution. The lack of proper built environmental factors such as medical facilities, recruitment facilities, housing and shelters, educational facilities, transport infrastructure, streets and electricity facilities, food sources, recreational facilities and many more. The various social factors, which affect theses group of people are cultural practices, identity, crime rates, education, employment, poverty, racism, income, chronic stress, depressions, anxieties, collective hopelessness and many more. Due to all these factors, they suffer from many incurable diseases and thereby increases the mortality rates.
As mentioned by Whiley et al. (2019), environmental health is a discipline that has a major impact on the Australian indigenous people. The health factors of these people are associated with the poor housing and sanitisation, contaminated water supplies, unhygienic ambience, unsafe working places and many more. The Aboriginal and To
es islander people are often regarded as underclass people as they lack employment, lower income level, blackish culture and poor cultural development. These people lack employments, as proper deserving facilities are not provided so as upgrade themselves in order to cope with the Australian cultural people.
These indigenous people therefore remain deprived from several basic facilities such as housing, food and clothing. Due to poor water facilities, they often suffer from several abdominal...
