ENGL1090

Draft essay 12% 400 words

What are you thinking about – what are your ideas? What is your topics? Why are you thinking about this theme/approach/concept?

Idea: 100 words 2 marks

What parts, elements, moments from the text Anatomy of Voice do you think you will use

Textual support: 50 words 2 marks

A draft introduction 250 words 8 marks

This draft essay introduction (which will change considerably by the time you have finished your research and draft essay writing) is intended to help you solidify your main argument, develop your argument around your three supporting ideas, and offer a map of the direction your essay might take. By the time you complete the first draft of your entire essay, your introduction will need to be rewritten to accommodate the direction the body of your essay went in, so please don’t worry about originality reports in turnitin as your draft intro and your final essay introduction should be quite different. This draft intro should include

Topic/research scope

A sentence or two that reveals your topic (this might be one of the ideas you outlined in your last assessment) and sets up the context of your idea/approach (1 mark)

Your three supporting ideas/points (3-4 sentences) (3 marks)

Your support material (the scholarly concepts you will use to back up your ideas) (2 marks)

A thesis statement (1 mark)

Writing style, grammar, punctuation (1 marks)

It should have a topic sentence, an idea about how this is apparent in the text(s), an idea about how it is supported conceptually and it should all relate to your THESIS statement/main argument/purpose. So there should be at least two MLA in-text references (one from your text and one from scholarly support).

I have started to think deeply about what really Voice is and how it actually shapes our understanding of the world (Sharkey). I have come to realize that it is essentially through Voice that our life comes alive.
This idea can be supported through Musgrave’s mentions of tadpoles, mosquitoes (68)and nightingales (81)and how each
ing life to the reader through their voices, as he/she is drawn into a silence of hearing and looking for these voices. It would be hard to imagine life without voices that...
