Then, you will synthesize your understanding of these resources, applying your knowledge to the Pediatric Hospital case study.

patients visit them every year, and they are specialized in providing care to the infants, children,
teens, and adults. Akron Children’s Hospital has earned a higher level of reputation that is they
have Gold Seal of Approval from Joint Commission and Magnet Recognition Status for
excellent nursing from the American Nursing Credentialing Center.
The hospital involves in teaching to the universities in the Northeast Ohio, and they offer
a pediatric specialty fellowship training programs. Their quality of service and dedication in
taking care of patients enabled them to earn the reputation among people. Cleveland Clinic’s
children Hospital and University Hospital’s Rainbow Babies are two other well-reputed hospitals
providing best services to their patients. They are well renowned for their innovation and in
performing life-saving procedures. All these hospitals have the best team of doctors, researchers,
and scientists who are in a position to provide best services and care for the patients (Vinas,
2011).
The distinctive style of business operations has always made Akron to stand ahead of
others in the region and to hold a competitive position in the industry. Pediatric care is the
competitive advantage for Akron that makes them stand ahead of other competitors in the
industry. Both Cleveland Clinic’s children Hospital and University Hospital’s Rainbow Babies
mainly focuses on continuous improvement in their operations. But the main drawback is that
they are unable to make an effective strategic program that will enable them to gain more
popularity. Strategic planning and implementation is the key driver for the success and
continuous improvement in Akron, unlike the other two counterparts (Vinas, 2011).

operations and activities of the hospital. Hospital is similar to other organization from different
industries. Therefore, the management and strategic implementation should be competitive like
other industries. Nature of business, goal, and mission are different for hospitals, but it is
essential to focus on making use of best organization structure to succeed in the business. CEO
of Akron hospital is considered to the key for the growth and development of the hospital.
CEO handles entire operations across function in an efficient manner (Vinas, 2011).
Chief executive officer of Akron is responsible and accountable for all the decisions and
performance of the hospital. CEO forms the strategy and provides strategic guidance and clarity
to the employees about the purpose of various decisions taken by the management. It motivates
the employees to work along with the organization in accomplishing the goals. Akron has a six-
sigma based training program that provides the best training to the employees to work as per the
quality standards of the organization. CEO guidance and six-sigma training are making the
hospital to be competitive.
External environment analysis is performed before the decision making that is
geographical studies are undertaken before the expansion of the hospital. It enables them to
concentrate on those specialties that are in high demand in those regions. Akron has gained more
confidence from the parents as the quality of physicians, and their services are reputed, and they
pay more concentration to the patients (Vinas, 2011). The overall quality of services provided by
the hospital is superior when compared to the others in the region making them stand ahead in
the competition. Akron mainly focuses on pediatric research. Akron has their MRI scheduling to
make a quicker diagnosis of the issue, but the hospital failed to make the best utilization of those
