Arguments on whether the responsibility for ensuring citizen's wellbeing lie with both the individual and the state:
Introduction:
Overall welfare of a citizen depends on all the common factors and terms that contribute a person’s health and wellbeing. It is associated with the mental and physical health of the person. Mental and physical wellbeing is regulated by several factors that include the status of the person in his community (Michalos, 2017). Even if the person is physically fit, he might suffer from metal ailments and other psychological dysfunction. There might be financial and economical aspects to consider in this case as well. So all the aspects of a person’s life, like the social, economic, and psychological parameters contribute to the general wellbeing of the person. These factors are both regulated by the person’s decision making abilities and the benefits that the state provides to their citizens.
Who should be held accountable for the wellbeing of a person?
The question now arises that who should provide the necessary good and services like housing, education and healthcare? Such opinions have seen to change over the course of time depending upon the societies changing values and priorities. In most cases, especially in the western democratic counties it is felt that the general acknowledgement of a person’s health or general well being should depend on the government or the state. The state should be the primary establishment that should provide for and have a role in provisions and regulations of human services that impact their healthcare and overall well being services. They should also prioritize and assist the members that are suffering from severe disadvantageous situations (Carson & Ke
, 2017). But it has been seen that the extent of state interventions, programs and policies are not enough and have often caused a controversy. The general well being is dependent on a lot of factors. Each member pf the community has their own share of problems and their own personal values that the state cannot fathom.
