Discussion Physician Centric Care to Patient Centric Care with students
1st student discussion
Physician Centric Care describes any process where the needs of the physician are placed in the center, or at the highest priority.Physician Centric Care places the physician in charge of a patient’s healthcare making the physician the sole decision maker. Physicians believe that they, and they alone know what’s best for their patients. They are for teamwork but only as long as the team recognizes that they are the leaders and decision makers.Patient Centric Care is about putting more effort into understanding the patient. Patient centric care remembers that a patient seeking treatment is a person not just a case number and patient has a past, has preferences, has concerns and anxieties about receiving medical treatment. I believe it is important to listen to your patient so that your patient feels heard, and to put your patient first. People commit to physicians they trust and believe care about their well being. It is important that patients learn good habits and how to take care of themselves, and to take control of the decisions that affect their health. I believe that a patients who is satisfied with their quality of care are more likely to follow through with their treatment.

Physician Centric- This is the process of delivering reactive care to patients where a physician is solely responsible for the care of the patient and the flow of information
Patient Centric- This is a way that healthcare systems can establish partnerships among practitioners, patients and their families to make decisions based on the patient's wants, needs and their preferences.
What is the difference between these two? Well physician centric is solely on the physician, not on the patient. The physician does all of the work in this one. Meanwhile, in patient centric, instead of the physician doing all of the work, it switches over to the patient, it now all relies on the patient.
Why is all of this important? It's all important because it's how the healthcare system works now. It's either all the physician or all the patient, depending on the situation. It's important to know because without this information, we wouldn't necessarily know how our wants/needs/preferences etc would be used in the system.
