Context:
Digital or online profiles are an increasingly important way that health and well-being professionals
connect with fellow practitioners. Connecting with others who work and study in the sector,
enables professionals to share information and to stay up to date with the latest research and
developments in the field. In creating an online profile, it is important to ensure that the type of
information shared is appropriate and professional in nature, including the images and personal
information used to create the profile.
Instructions:
Assessment 1 has two parts:
PART A: In this part of the assessment you are required to reflect on your cu
ent engagement with
digital platforms and to evaluate your overall level of digital literacy. To complete this task you will
need to:
1) Download and complete the ASSESSMENT 1: Digital Self-Assessment Form from the
Assessment 1 folder in the assessment section of Blackboard.
2) There are a number of key media types identified on the form (e.g. Social Media). Please
consider each of the identified types and indicate whether or not you have used the media
and to what level.
3) In addition, reflect on each of the media types and your interactions and use of the media.
Consider and critically evaluate the skills and/or knowledge you have employed to engage
with the media type.
4) Write two paragraphs, one answering a and one answering b below::
a) Provide one example of your use of the media type.
EXAMPLE: Website Design
I have some basic skills in web design. I can use software such as Sublime to write
in HTML5, using a generic CSS generator such as Bootstrap. I cannot design my own
CSS styles or classes. I also can use some basic functions of JavaScript, but I cannot
write use functions or write in Java or PHP. I can use programs such as Photoshop
to resize images to make them appropriate for the web and I have an
understanding of basic user experience design such as the use of banners, menus
and colour combinations.
) Identify those skills that you have used that may be transfe
able to your future
profession or field. For example, do you have experience using software that
equires data entry such as Excel, and is that skill something you’ll need in your
future roles?
5) Search online for content related to yourself through sites such as Google, Facebook and
Instagram. Please use a private

6) Reflect on the results of your search and then write a paragraph about what you have found
about yourself. In particular, consider what impression could be drawn from the search,
what is your most professional or flattering result as well as the least
professional/flattering/most emba
assing result?
7) To complete this assignment you should submit completed ASSESSMENT 1: Digital Self-
Assessment Form by the required date via TURNITIN and the submission link provided in the
Assessment 1 folder in the assessment section of Blackboard.
Part A assessment is due by 11:55pm AEST/AEDT last Sunday of Module 1
(end of Week 2)
PART B: In this part of the assessment you are to undertake online research. To complete this task
you will need to:
1) Identify the profiles of 4 professionals in your field using sites such as LinkedIn or Instagram.
2) Once you have identified the profiles, examine the information provided including pictures,
text, links and such like. Write 500 words describing which features you think are required
to establish a professional profile and how you will implement this into your own profile.
3) Using your critique of the profiles as a guide, create your own professional profile on
LinkedIn. This should draw upon and develop the digital skills you identified in Part A of this
assessment. If you already have a LinkedIn profile, update it following the advice from the
videos and resources available.
4) To complete this assignment you should submit your 500 word critique and the URL
associated with your profile by the required date via TURNITIN and the submission link
provided in the Assessment 1 folder in the assessment section of Blackboard.

PART A: You will be assessed on your knowledge of the key skills and concepts of
digital literacy, your use of examples to demonstrate your proficiency and your ability
to self-evaluate and reflect.
PART B: You will be assessed on the quality of your critique, the choice of information
shared, language used and professionalism of your persona as depicted by your profile.
