Reading Review 1:
According to the concept of spirituality for Aboriginals, each of the objects is living and has soul and spirit. This is known as Aboriginal spirituality, which helps in defining the core identity of the aboriginals. It helps in defining the various aspects of their lives, which included their relationship and their environment. Indigenous spirituality governs proper listening, living and learning that acts as their fundamental basis of identity. According to Grieves (2009), the spirituality of the Aboriginals is animalistic in nature. Within the animalistic world, it is assumed that everything is connected. Each of the aspects including the plants, animals, natural forces and human beings are interconnected and being energised by the spirit.
According to the Aboriginal spirituality beliefs, humans have an equal footing in nature and they are morally obligated in proper treatment towards the landforms, plants and animals. The belief that, the visible and the invisible aspects of nature are all interconnected as well as possess the same life is considered to be sacred. Beyond this interactive world, they have a strong spiritual force that is although unseen but is stronger that holds the nature together. Each of the individuals within Aboriginal group learns to respect this spiritual form since their childhood and learns to believe that these spirits have the power to change the nature, assist in food gathering and hunting process and help them find their ideal partners.
The concept of Aboriginals spirituality is important for them because they believe in the theory of cosmogony, which begins with ‘Dreamtime’. The Dreamtime heroes for the aboriginals are their ancestors who have created them. These ancestors are believed to part human and partly an animal or reptile who had power and creative ability. As stated to Grieves (2008), the Aboriginals believe that during the process of Dreamtime the hidden worlds had emerged and have shaped the world. The shaping of the world is based on the different actions and inter-action of their ancestors. To every Aboriginal's interconnectedness and is crucial so that they can maintain order and sustainability.
They believe that their ancestors who have laid the foundation of their lives have convinced them that it is their responsibility to maintain this connectedness. They believe that each of them has a responsibility towards their clam and for their country. This also includes their responsibility towards nature, landforms, universe and different species. A further totem is an object in the form of animal and plant, which each of the Aboriginal clan used to inherit from their ancestors. Totem was believed to be a spiritual emblem that defines their roles and responsibilities towards their environment and to each other.
These totems are important for the Aboriginals, as they are believed to be imparted by their Dreamtime heroes that helped them in maintaining their connection with space and time. These are the places where spiritual beings can travel, emerge and interact with the other spiritual beings. They believed that these heroes were of great importance and basis of their creation in this world. The spirituality of Aboriginals is allocated after their birth by their birth totem. As a part of their spirituality, they learn to dance, sing and show their gratitude towards their spirits.
Reading Review 2:
Within the contemporary society in Australia, it has been observed that the Aboriginals participate in the Christian churches so that they can express and continue their spiritual practices as well as beliefs. On the other hand, there are also many Aboriginals who continue to live a secular life maintaining a strong undercu
ent of Aboriginal spirituality. As stated by Grieves (2009), it was also reported that many of the Christians were sympathetic towards the social injustice, which was faced by the Aboriginal clans and they accepted their theory of creation and concepts of spirituality. According to a census, which was ca
ied out in 2006, it was observed that there were 455,023 indigenous Australians, among which 64% of the individuals accepted that they believed in Christianity while 33% of them stated that they have no religion....
