Description Health promotion program evaluation Part 1 First, you will need to choose one peer-reviewed academic article from the list provided on iLearn under ‘Assessments’. Then, you will need to critically appraise the article by address the following questions: • Provide the reference of the chosen article; • Briefly outline the research question and the rationale; • Describe and critique the choice of the target audience; • Identify the type of evaluation(s) used and justify the purpose of this type of evaluation(s); • Describe how the effectiveness of the program was evaluated. List all the outcomes measured and how it was measured; • Was the program successful? Discuss why yes, no or maybe. Master of Public Health Page 2 of 4 Part 2 Based on your health promotion program logic model from AT2, develop an evaluation plan. You may wish to adjust your program logic model based on the feedback you received from AT2. Your evaluation plan should include the following: • Briefly describe your health promotion program, including chosen health issue and target audience; • Provide your health promotion program logic model; • Describe your process, impact/outcome evaluation design and list the key evaluation questions; • Describe which and how outcomes will be measured to evaluate your program; • Discuss ethical considerations; • Describe how you will report, disseminate and use evaluation findings. References: minimum requirement ≥ 10 recent academic resources. I strongly recommend referring to NSW Ministry of Health Evaluation Guide XXXXXXXXXXand NSW Government Program Evaluation Guidelines XXXXXXXXXXto further guide you in preparing your evaluation plan (see iLearn ‘Assessments’).

Part 1 – Critical Appraisal of the Article
Reference of the chosen article – Hardy LL, King L, Kelly B, Fa
ell L, Howlett S. Munch and Move: evaluation of a preschool healthy eating and movement skill program. International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity. 2010 Dec;7(1):80. https:

Research Question – The study wanted to analyze if promotion of healthy eating and physical activity in the early childhood would prevent the chances of the children becoming overweight or obese in future.
Rationale – There had been identification that health promotion as early childhood services had prevented the children getting obese in their adult life. But, there is not much evidence that nutrition and physical activity promotion in early years of life can actually prevent weight related issues. Thus, the researchers wanted to do this study entitle “Munch and Move”.
Choice of Target Audience – The researchers did the study in preschools where the average age of children was about 4.4 years. As the study was aimed to find out if interventions in early life would promote healthy lifestyle and improve the health in future years, the choice of target audience was okay. But, at such an early age the children may not be able to understand the importance of healthy eating and healthy habits. On the other hand, some children might ca
y on the healthy habits as they experienced the benefits at such an early age.
Type of Evaluation – The evaluation was a long-term outcome as the Munch and Move is a professional development program that evaluated if lifestyle modifications have long term outcomes on the quality of life.
As nutritious diet and more physical activity are known to improve the quality of life, this program also evaluated the same in preschool children. The outcomes were positive, and improvement was observed in the intervention group of children.
Effectiveness of the Program – The evaluation of the study was done by the measurement of outcomes to judge the effectiveness of the program. The outcomes measured in the study are as follows:
Demographic Information – The parents were asked to give the details of their child including sex, date of birth, residence area and language at home. this allowed the researchers to note the socioeconomic status of the children according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics' Index of Relative Socioeconomic Disadvantage (IRSD) (1). This allowed the evaluation of the students according to their socioeconomic background as well.
Audit of the lunchbox – The contents of the lunchbox of the students were analyzed according to the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating (AGHE) (2) without their knowledge before the start of experiment. The food was classified and categorized according to the type and nutritional values. The overall lunchbox was graded as balanced, over-balanced or under balanced.
Assessment of Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) – The students were assessed using the Test of Gross Movement Development (TMGD-2) checklist (3). These skills were chosen as they form the basis of advanced skills. The children were trained and tested in the skill before they were asked to perform for actual trials. A score was given to each child by the assessor after the assessor was satisfied that the student has performed the skill satisfactorily.
Policies and Practices of Preschool – An interview of the Director of each school was done to assess the policies on eating habits, physical activities and television time for children. Teachers were also asked to fill regarding the same points. Post-survey questionnaire was also done with the same set of people. This allowed the researchers to study the impact of the study on the policies and behavior of the teachers and the director.
According to the details of the Munch and Move workshop evaluation –
    · The program should be continued to
ing certain long-term changes in the contents of children’s lunchbox.
    · The program needs to run for a longer time and from the start of the session till end of the session for successful completion.
    · The benefits of modifying the program are more than the associated costs as obesity would be a burden later on.
    · The program can be continued with the help of parents and school directors as they would be most interested in improvement of children’s skills.
    · The circumstances should be created in primary...
