Indian Health Service (IHS) 
The Indian Health Service (IHS) is an important part of Health and Human services 
(HHS) department of the USA. This department is also an operating division of HHS. IHS is 
fully responsible to provide the health and medical related services to the tribes of USA along 
with the Natives of Alaska (Capper, Ginter & Swayne, 2002). IHS is known as a principal health 
care service provider within the boundary of the USA that provides the advocacy services to the 
Indian people in the context of Health and Health related problems.  
The main goal of IHS is to improve the health status of related Indian people as much as 
possible. This department of USA provides the caring services to American Indians with the 
community people related to Alaska Natives with the help of 50 health stations, 59 health centers 
and 33 hospitals.
