Length:
5 minutes audio-recording/presentation with 10 PowerPoint slides
NB Record your voice (as though you are presenting to an audience) and embed the audio within your PowerPoint (slide by slide).
Due:
Friday, 3rd Dec. 23:59 (CST) Week 5 uploaded to Learnline.
Submission:
Submit your PowerPoint through the link “A3: PowerPoint Presentation” in the “Assessment Submission” area in Learnline.
Task Overview:
This assessment represents an important stage in writing an essay which is to draw up a clear plan of how you will organise and reference your ideas in your final essay. This plan will then guide your writing for your essay, keeping the overall structure clear and the paragraphs on topic.
It provides an opportunity to get feedback on your essay plan and review and refine your ideas before you start writing. You will also build and practice the important academic skills of presenting information ve
ally and visually.
Task Details:
Create and present a PowerPoint presentation of your essay plan for your final essay. The presentation should show the main ideas you plan to write about in your final essay, as well as the references you plan to include and your essay’s organisation.
Your 10 slides must use the following structure:
Slide 1: Provide your name and a title (clearly indicating your chosen scenario and scope);
Slide 2: Provide a draft thesis statement (key argument responding to the assessment task) for your essay in one or two sentences;
Slide 3: Provide a background to your chosen scenario, including the stakeholders;
Slide 4: Provide a definition of sustainability (with citation) and one or two sentences explaining how it reflects the concerns and responses in your chosen scenario;
Slide 5: Include a graphic (visual) representation of your essay plan for your chosen scenario. This can be a taxonomy or a visual outline, providing it is clear and accurate;
Slides 6, 7 & 8: Explain the key sustainability concerns and responses you plan to write about in your final essay for each dimension (social, environmental and economic). Allow one slide per dimension. These concerns and responses should be the same as those included in your essay plan/taxonomy on the previous slide. Include supporting evidence for the concerns and responses discussed.
Slide 9: In the formal bibliographic (referencing) style of the cu
ent APA guide, list the most relevant publications that you have found so far;
Slide 10: Conclude your presentation by reflecting on your progress towards writing the final essay. This slide may also indicate further research that you still need to do.
NB: This is not a final plan so we don’t expect you to have covered everything you will discuss in your essay, but we do expect that at this stage you will have decided on most of the key ideas (topics and sub-topics) that your essay will cover.
Suggestions to help you complete these tasks:
· Read the task description carefully, so you include all required information;
· Select a design template to ensure that your slides appear consistent in look and feel;
· Select appropriate images that portray your slide’s message and purpose. For images that you use, reference each with its own web address directly under the image; not in slide 9 (which is a ‘bibliography’) that shows the references of publications you use. However, when speaking to slide 9, consider explaining how and why some of your listed publications relate to the three dimensions and/or your thesis statement;
· Add citations to your slides to support the ideas discussed;
· Practice your speech before recording your voice (external students) and carefully check that your recording is audible;
· Speaking/presenting to an audience:
· engaging – vary your tone and add suitable emphasis to certain words; maintain eye contact and use body language (internal students);
· Make slides readable and attractive from distance – minimum 24-point font;
· Keep slides uncluttered – use bullet points rather than full sentences;
· not read slides – use the slides to support what you are saying;
· Use an academic tone – not colloquial language.
Over the page is a template that shows what we expect you to cover in your essay plan on slide 5. The diagram doesn’t include any details (ideas or publications) that specifically relate to any essay – but we expect you to include such details.
Please Note: I have attached final essay (all ready completed by you fellows) as additional essay

Introduction
Consumerism is the condition when products and services are bought from consumers on massive scale from producers. It is a major factor in wealth creation and employment generation. The personal well-being and happiness are related to spending, it has some ill-effects also. The sustainability issues are major concerns which has drew the attention of the world towards it. The environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability are impacting communities as whole leading to some severe challenges for future for human existence. The activities which has deteriorating effects can not be overlooked for long and requires attention from each and every global citizen.
Overview of Scenario
Consumerism and development are inte
elated but in real terms how much they are impacting the future of the planet is quite unknown. The research in aspect is superficially done and required more in depth study so as to dig out the evidences which can enlighten human race to take a control of their activities which is destructive for world. It is responsible for creating inequality at global level, increasing obesity, pollution and depletion of resources on a massive scale (Duhan, XXXXXXXXXXThe sustainability concerns have been supported by research done by experts to extract the real roots of the problem.
Sustainability concerns
Consumerism means the level of extreme consumption. The consumption patterns are reflecting the status in the society. It has given rise to sustainability concerns because consumers do not have time to address issues of social relations and peace (Diprose et.al, XXXXXXXXXXTheir activities are distu
ing ecology of the planet thus creating a community which is durable in consumerist society is a challenge.
Environmental
Earlier it was developed nations like Europe and America who were considered as contributors of unsustainable consumption patterns. For decades they exploited mother nature and now it is turn of developing countries which are new members in the race. The organizations which are observing consumerism and its impact on environment says that around 2 billion people are recognized as consumer class which possess high end electronic gadgets, latest cars, high debts and bigger mansions, they have preference for processed foods and holds non-essential goods in the list. According to Zhongming, Linong, Wangqiang and Wei XXXXXXXXXXthough rising consumption has created jobs and opportunities for businesses to expand and introduce new product range in the market but it has resulted in depletion of natural systems posing a challenge for poorer people to meet even their basic needs.
For example: chickens are kept in cages and they are given hormones till their legs are in no condition to bear the weight of their body. These chickens are slaughtered for meat. In some cases overcrowding of chickens give rise to spread of disease of animals which is tried to cure by giving them medicines. Now consuming such meat is dangerous for both animals and humans leading to dangerous diseases in the system. As mentioned by Khan, Jhariya, Raj, Banerjee, and Meena XXXXXXXXXXthough companies are taking aggressive step to change their policies for procurement of such raw material despite this the environment is eroding and threat to food security and safety standards is threatened on the higher note.
Social
In the social context it is important to understand that consumerism and consumption are two different concepts. Consumerism relates with materiality which gives satisfaction and helps to achieve self-esteem (Gillani & Kutaula, XXXXXXXXXXConsumption means satisfying basic needs which are required to live life like food, cloth, shelter and health. It is a social pressure on humans which led to overspending on goods which counts in luxury items like IPhone, cars and much more. For example: IPhone is related to status symbol. Americans work hard and for longer hours to save money and buy products which are not even worth buying but just they represent belongingness to a particular social group then tend to buy those products impulsively. Thus such observed patterns are not only for higher class but lower class is also getting affected due to it. In social setup the existence of such mentality is difficult to resist and it is getting embedded in the culture.
As indicated by Clark Haytko, Hermans and Simmers XXXXXXXXXXanother aspect of consumerism in social perspective is consumer society is linear in its structure. More and more people are becoming its part though it is a good news but people take debts to satisfy their needs and later they turned out to be anxious and depressed when they are not able to repay them. It leads to mental health issues resulting in moral degradation. The relationships get affected due to it and the overall well-being of humans gets impacted. While running behind materialism they forget to value and nurture what they have.
It is required that human race understand the fact that such products are not contributing in shaping human life something to better or making life faster therefore it is required to think about what to buy and what not to buy. They need to be careful about disadvantages of consumerism in their individual life and act accordingly.
Economic
Consumerism has positive impact on economic growth of a country. When people spend more the growth of the economy is ensured. It helps in increasing production and raise more opportunities for employment. The living standard of people also gets improved. It also helps in boosting creativity and innovation. The new ways to address the requirements of the consumers are developed by products and services (Quoquab, Thurasamy and Mohammad, XXXXXXXXXXThe negative impact of consumerism is economic growth is measured by gross Domestic Product (GDP) which says that consumption is high by increasing the ca
on footprints, disposal of waste and rise on pollution levels is at maximum, the economic gaps between rich and poor becoming wider with time. The high growth rate in economies has also resulted in severe environmental and social impacts. This is posing a threat to economic growth by reversing the effects which has been achieved till now. This is beginning of consumerist culture because people are indulging and becoming part of this activity with their sub-conscious attitude.
Every industry directly or indirectly contributing to the rise of consumerism. Be it hotel and tourism, clothing and apparels, advertising or some other business, due to high disposable income consumerism is going to stay in the market. Diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, genetic problems etc are increasing day by day due to unhealthy lifestyle. The modern customers are developed and shaped due to modernization, globalization and now digitalization. According To Rogerson XXXXXXXXXXYouth is the most vulnerable segment who is behaving sensitively towards these changes. Consumers need
