Importance of Public Health Preparedness Plan
Severe Pandemic in Texas: Preparation
A Public Health Preparedness plan is associated with several benefits especially to the health of the people. A severe pandemic in Texas is likely to affect the general health of the people living there like the pandemic influenza. Influenza is highly contagious and has the ability of threatening a large number of individuals. Within this context, the public health preparedness plan comes in handy where measures regarding ways of responding to the pandemic will be provided. The measures in the plan will also contain ways of dealing with and controlling the pandemic to avoid loss of lives. In addition, the Public Health Preparedness plan is important as it ensures resource allocation. This means that health resources required in the act of controlling the pandemic will always be at the disposal. Thus, chances of loosing lives due to lack of resources are eliminated (“Public Health Preparedness and Response Plan,” 2009).
In addition, the Public Health Preparedness plan aims at reducing the number of deaths arising from a pandemic through the provision of containment measures. The measures will ensure that residents who are not infected by influenza are provided with vaccines in order to contain the pandemic. Additionally also, the plan will offer Texas residents with training on how they can avoid being infected by the pandemic. This plays a major role in preventing and controlling the pandemic therefore reducing the levels of mortality. Moreover, the public health preparedness plan contains a communication plan meant to provide people in Texas with information about the pandemic. This reduces the levels of mortality as people will visit medical centres at early stages of the infection and acquire treatment before the virus becomes resistant (“Public Health Preparedness and Response Plan,” 2009).
