College Physics II Exam 4: GAIA’s Insight EPCC
ALL WRITTEN RESPONSES MUST BE WITHIN THREE SENTENCES.
1. Use figure 1 to answer the following questions (assume the switch is on):
◦ What is the time constant?
◦ What is the cu
ent in the circuit and voltage across the capacitor system at t = 0.30 s?
◦ What would be the maximum cu
ent expected to run through the circuit?
2. In the blue highlighted section in figure 1, calculate the magnetic field 0.25 m away from the
wire the moment the circuit is immediately switched on and when 0.30 seconds have elapsed.
3. A single-looped wire interacts with a magnet system described in figure 2. How much torque is
generated on the loop? How many loops are needed to attain 100 times the calculated torque if
the magnetic field drops by half, all other things being equal?
4. Calculate the force applied on a 0.010 C moving 20.0 m/s at 0.00°, 30.0°, and 90.0° to a 0.250 T
magnetic field. What would be the max force that this charge could experience?
5. What is magnetic permeability and susceptibility, and how can be used to understand the
internal structure of our bodies?
