CMNS A1 MEMO
A6: Proposal Presentation 20%
CMNS1140/Dunbar 1
Assignment Overview & Objectives
Presentations are a communications tool used in many job functions, industries, and professional
scenarios. This assignment will allow you to practice creating a professional slideshow and deliver
an engaging pre-recorded, online presentation.
The purpose of this presentation is to get approval on the topic, questions, and format you will use in
you A7: Career Research Report (it may be helpful to review those instructions before you start this
project). Therefore, the purpose of your proposal is to convince me (your CMNS 1140 instructor) that
you have a viable and valid research proposal for your final report. I am your primary audience
for this proposal. Prior to beginning this assignment, you may find it helpful to review the description
and requirements for the final A7: Career Research Report.
You will apply many skills you have learned this semester to this project, including communicating to
a specific audience, persuasive writing, visual communications, and design, adapting messages for
different mediums, writing research questions, and more. You are encouraged to review feedback
from past assignments and notes from previous modules to support your development of this
proposal presentation.
Instructions
Develop a 4-5-minute presentation on a career area or field that you are interested in, which you
will also use for your final report. This includes a slideshow and recorded oral presentation.
Answer the following questions and use these requirements as the basis for the sections of
your proposal:
• Include an Introduction in which you identify the career area or field you will be exploring
in your final report. Clearly define the field using a professional or academic source other
than the dictionary or a random blog that explains/defines your field. (Cite sources)
• Briefly describe some of the Cu
ent Issues or Trends that impact your intended
professional field. Example questions: Why is it important that you are aware of this issue or
trend now? Are any of them controversial? What are the complexities? Are any cu
ent world
event(s) impacting this field? Etc. (Cite sources)
• Describe your Personal Interest in this field. What is drawing you to this career? (This is a
personal statement, so no citations are required in this section.)
• Introduce Two Research Questions about your field you would like to research in your final
eport. Ensure that these are all open-ended questions. For example, don’t say: Is
sustainability important? Do say: Why is sustainability an important part of marketing?
Explain WHY you chose those two questions. (No citations are necessary in this section.)
• Explain how each of these two questions will Benefit first-year students in your field.
• Describe and justify the Report Format you will use to present your research to your
audience of first-year students in the A7: Career Research Report.
• Complete your presentation with a
ief Conclusion, summarizing the presentation and
asking your instructor for approval.
