Healthcare management issues are also being alleviated by implementing mergers between providers of all levels. When two organizations merge they can benefit from economies of scale and other cost benefits such as interchangeability and consolidated healthcare leadership. Another issue with mergers is that is that larger corporations become more resistant to change in an industry marked by constant change and innovation. Technology innovations also allow providers to set up cloud storage for medical files allowing quick and convenient access from any location. Providers must address the security concerns here including those created by organizational problems such as improper employee training. While some health records were compromised due to malicious activity, a large portion was due to unintentional disclosures by staff. A key challenge is increasing interchangeability between disconnected providers and leveraging technology to make up for decreasing staff and an improved focus on value-based care over quantity treated. This includes improving preventative approaches to managing population health.
Also the organization must try to meet the immediate needs and which employees might benefit most, such as leadership and key staff who can spread knowledge to others, the report advised. Some employees, such as a hospital system's IT team, will soon need strong abilities in a given subject area . Many payers and providers don't have foreign operations, so they won't benefit from the repatriation provision, or they may not have positive taxable income to realize these benefits, These changes may require new supply chains, business unit reorganizations, benefit redesigns for executives and staff, investments in technology and staff training, the report noted. Operational agility will permit companies to act quickly when necessary, but that will require planning and creativity, However , in most states, payers will be able to sell more products in the individual and group markets, but regulations of those products will differ. States that don't ban new products outright could still place greater restrictions on their use than federal regulations allow

Reflecting on the focus and content of this course I think an important challenge that management in healthcare organizations potentially faces is communication problems. Yes a part of communication refers to the communication between two people, however that is only a small part of the overall topic when talking about management in an organization. Management has the responsibility of establishing policies and procedures for communicating organizational knowledge. Part of my current job in a Quality Control/Management setting is to help audit my organization as it pertains to a Quality Management System in accordance with the International ISO 9001:20015 standard. I understand most of you might not be familiar with this standard, in laymen terms it is a better business practice standards created in Europe in the late 90's that is slowly making its way into the states. The standard describes how top management needs to determine what organizational knowledge is: "The organization shall determine the knowledge necessary for the operation of its processes and to achieve conformity of products and services". Now this relates directly to communication as the standards says that the organization needs to determine relevant internal and external communications, which include what and when to communicated, with who it will communicated, and how it communicates. So that is my understanding of organizational communication and its complexities, and how to figure out the needs for communication. This gives us insight into the fact that communication goes beyond just talking about work between co-workers or providers and patients. As a manager or administrator it beneficial to establish communication fundamentals as it pertains to processes and procedures in all departments and sections to ensure Quality outcomes. Quality outcomes are not just patient related, it is easy in most cases for manager to see the big picture. However more often then not staff in one department do not realize the impact their specific process on another departments process for Quality outcome. That specifically is a prime example of what the organization needs to communicate internally.
