A critique of your example of family or community engagement that draws on relevant engagement literature 4. The strengths and limitations of your example in terms of community engagement 5. Proper referencing and the referencing style you used. Some of the concepts you could consider in your discussion include: 1. The public participation spectrum 2. Social capital 3. Strengths-based practice 4. Complex problems 5. Community development 6. School community partnerships 7. Social determinants of health 8. Principles of community engagement 9. Engaging “hard to reach” families I encourage you to use an example you have been involved in (e.g., through a student placement, as a volunteer, through work) but you don’t have to. Make sure you remain as objective as possible and that you focus on family and community engagement rather than the issue being addressed. Note: You need to use a standard referencing style. In this course I recommend you use APA 6th (http://libguides.newcastle.edu.au/apa-6th) but you can use a different style if that is what you are used to. On the front page of your assessment you need to include what referencing style you used and what style guide (which explains the referencing style) you used preferably including a link if it was not APA 6th. An Overview of the Example
Community engagement is a process to create awareness or carry out an activity so as to bring about a sustainable change in a largescale of communities comprising of people from a specific or different area. Community engagement also establishes relationship among people in a community while approaching for a long-term solution for a concerned issue. The objectives of community engagement are effective communication among the members, active involvement, sustainable decision making for the community, and continuous improvement (Latrobe City, 2015)
The example of community engagement I will be taking is the National Ride to Work Day. This programme is initiated by the Bicycle Network in 1994. This activity is begun with only 615 cyclist in Melbourne but it has now been expanded nation-wide and the number of participants has been extended to more than 10000 by October, 2018. The goal of this event is to create awareness among the people about consumption of natural resources that is fuel and electricity, saving environment, gaining health benefits through a joyful exercise, and raise overall economy of self and country. 
Interested candidate are asked to use a bicycle on the day of event, celebrated annually on 12th October, to their workplace. The participants also usually encourage many other people and thus it increases the network of participation. The event is held in the city and has covered a large area of the city and many areas in the country. People are encouraged to ride their bicycle who have never tried it before. It also reduces the traffic congestion and gives the participants a feeling of joy and satisfaction (Bicycle Network, 2019).
Strategies used in the Event
The aim of the event is to provide bicyclists the opportunity to use their skill, making the city bicycle ride friendly, to minimise use of personal vehicles like car and motor cycles, rather join us to enhance their own health as well as to save the environment, and economy. The organiser targeted to accumulate maximum number of citizen, in the city of Sydney and around the country. A website for the network is created and blogs on the event are written to share updated information with participants. This example can be correlated to the public participation spectrum and social determinants of health.
Public Participation Spectrum:
The key concepts of public participation spectrum according to International Association of Public Participation, are to Inform, Consult, Involve, Collaborate and Empower. The organizing committee of Bicycle Network has provided information on the Ride2Work event for all the people on their website with every useful details. A diagrammatic and mapping representation of the routes are given on the website for reference of the participants and interested candidates. The website has also mentioned the whole process as an entertaining activity by providing the steps to join it and its benefits. The information are updated on regular intervals to keep the participants and members of the community updated. It has also made successful effort to involve maximum people through National Cycling participation survey.
