This philosophy paper aims to investigate the basic concepts and tenets that influence my nursing practice philosophy. This paper aims to clarify how philosophical viewpoints affect nurses' understanding of their tasks, responsibilities, and interactions in the healthcare setting by looking at the role of philosophy in nursing. Through introspection and critical analysis, the goal is to construct a personal philosophy of nursing that integrates professional practice with individual values, ethics, and beliefs. Definition of Nursing
Most people think that nurses take care of the ill, injured, crippled, and/or terminally ill. However, nursing requires a more comprehensive and compassionate approach to healthcare than simply attending to the needs of the poor. A cohort in nursing establishes a framework for effectiveness and altruism in the provision of care. Nurses frequently perform the roles of educators, activists, and care coordinators in addition to caring for patients. They manage the complex emotional and physical needs of their customers. Nurses must exercise critical thinking to prevent and maintain patient health. Nursing work extends beyond hospital walls to include therapeutic lessons, community outreach health programs, and scientific research. Encouraging therapeutic connections with patients is one of the key competences of nursing.
Purpose of Nursing
As a nursing student, my dedication to the field is based on an intense sense of purpose and a sincere desire to improve the lives of people who are less fortunate. My innate desire to promote people's general health and well-being serves as my daily source of motivation. Being able to personally observe the expertise and attention the nurses gave to my grandfather in his final days gave me insight into the critical role that nurses play in providing comfort, support, and compassion in addition to attending to medical demands. Respecting the client's cultural beliefs, values, and customs is just as important as knowing them. Building trust with clients and promoting positive health outcomes can be achieved by nurses who exhibit cultural sensitivity and effective communication skills. As vital members of the community, nurses strive to prevent illness and promote health in a variety of demographics. To provide the finest care, healthcare workers must effectively collaborate and work as a team. Nurses can use their unique knowledge and experience to raise patient standards of care and enhance patient outcomes by collaborating with other healthcare professionals from other specialties.
The Community Caring for Public Health Nursing (CCPHN) article sheds light on the interactions that occur between nurses and other healthcare professionals, the community, and clients in culturally diverse contexts. In order to advance community caring practices, this article highlights the significance of collaborative collaborations between nurses and other healthcare providers. Because they participate in community health practices, nurses are essential to creating compassionate communities. The neighborhood is viewed as a separate entity made up of people who are related to one another and have common goals and beliefs. Nurses strive to provide inclusive care that promotes human development and community among individuals with varying ethnic backgrounds, despite cultural differences.
Two Ethical Principles
Advocacy and confidentiality are two ethical precepts that influence my professional approach to nursing. A fundamental ethical principle, advocacy emphasizes the duty nurses must look out for the best interests and care of their patients. By taking preventative action, nurses work to improve the health and wellbeing of people they are responsible for. Nurses make ensuring that interventions and treatments are designed to maximize benefits and prevent damage by putting the needs of their clients first. When conducting assessments, they consider the physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of their customers. In their encounters, nurses show empathy, expertise, and compassion, whether they are giving medication, comfort care, or sympathetic support. I came across a patient scheduled for a painful stage 3 wound dressing change during my clinical rotation. I looked over the client's chart, recognizing that there would be suffering, to see if there was any documented PRN pain medicine available. The patient then indicated interest in receiving pain medicine when I went up to them in their room to ask whether they would like it before the dressing change. I conveyed the patient's wish to the nurse in charge of their care, speaking up for their comfort and wellbeing.
Another nursing ethical concept that emphasizes the need to safeguard clients' private and sensitive information is confidentiality. Nurses are entrusted with exclusive access to patients' private medical records, including diagnoses, treatment plans, and medical histories. Respecting confidentiality guidelines helps to build trust and confidence in the nurse-client relationship while also upholding clients' rights to privacy and autonomy. When managing patient information, nurses must operate professionally and with caution, only disclosing it to those who are authorized and directly involved in the patient's care. I have seen nurses argue loudly and inappropriately about their patients throughout multiple clinical rotations, frequently in front of the patients or other people who were not directly involved in their care. Some clients were exposed to these chats because their doors were left open, while other nurses disclosed confidential information to people who were not allowed. I contacted the nurses in question, concerned about the invasion of their privacy and professionalism, and kindly asked them to either move to a more secluded area or to quiet down so the clients would not listen. Unfortunately, the nurses responded rudely to my request and left without taking care of the problem. This incident serves as a reminder of the value of maintaining professionalism and secrecy in nursing practice, as well as the necessity of continuing education and guidance on ethical behavior in healthcare environments.
