Question. With reference to the respiratory or cardiovascular system, can you explain this statement?
Part 2: 600 words
Shahid works on a busy care of the elderly ward and he often misses his breaks. Today, he is working a 12 hour shift and has not had a chance to have a drink since breakfast at 6am. It is now 8pm. He is now experiencing some cramps in his abdomen and decided to take some Ibuprofen for the pain. When he went to the toilet, he noticed some burning on passing urine and that his urine was dark and smelly.
Question. Explain the physiology behind this scenario as well as potential pathophysiological disturbances that Shahid may experience. You may wish to consider aspects of pharmacology in your response.
Part 3: 900 words.
Susan (71 years old) is usually fit and active and has been having visits from the Community Mental Health Team. When the nurse visits, Susan informs him that she had a fall a few days ago. The nurse notices some bruising on her leg, and Susan is very stiff and sore when mobilising. Susan shows the nurse a wound on her arm, which is red, swollen and has some exudate evident – and painful to touch. The nurse cleans and dresses the wound. Susan takes two 500mg paracetamol tablets for the pain. When the nurse takes Susan’s observations, she has a temperature of 38.3 °c, a pulse of 110 and BP of 95/65. Susan says she really does not feel well.
Question. Explore an aspect of the pathophysiology underpinning this scenario.
WHAT SHOULD YOU BE COVERING?
In general, the more accurate, specific and detailed a student can be, the higher the mark they will achieve. To pass at Life Sciences students need to demonstrate that they understand the body’s systems accurately, and to pass well, they can understand these system’s in detail, how the processes work, and the interactions that occur between the systems.
There is only a limited amount of words, so there is no room for long introductions or any waffle (!). All students are clearly told this. Answer the question that is asked and stick to the point. Know what you are writing about. Ensure you read to support your answer with detail and if possible, references.
NB – We are not marking students down for poor referencing. But we are giving feedback on how students reference for your own learning.
Knowledge and understanding:
The teaching and learning in this module has focused on anatomy and physiology associated with nursing practice. You will need to demonstrate knowledge of many of the subjects we have discussed which apply to the question you are answering.
We recommend that you draw on different sources of evidence to back up your claims.
Application of data:
In your assignment, make sure you consistently apply your knowledge and understanding specifically to each of the three questions.
You will need to show that you can interpret the question that is asked, as well as supporting evidence for your answer.
Problem-solving
You will need to address the question, but also you might need to cover some elements in more depth and detail than others. This choice is yours, but ensure you do address the question that is asked. If you are looking at a specific area, then state that clearly in the introduction to ensure the reader knows.
Communication and References
You should look to write an assignment that communicates effectively to the reader.
Try to write in clear paragraphs that build and develops your answer. Be sure to use the language and terminology associated with the subject matter, but also use a professional tone.
Try and use references to support your arguments, and if you do, make sure you format references in the text and in the reference list according to referencing guidelines. There is help below.
It is helpful to proof-read your work before you submit it – or ask someone to read it for you – to make sure it makes sense and tells the reader everything you want to about your learning on this module.
Personal Learning and Transferable Skills
In this assignment, demonstrate your own learning and how you have developed as a student nurse by engaging in the learning on this module. Perhaps you can briefly identify this in your conclusion, for example. But words are tight, so please be aware of this.
