Describe the problem of obesity in the United States and discuss the role of the built 
environment in exacerbating such problem.
Obesity is one of the most widely experienced health problems for the citizens of the 
United States. One of the major reasons of obesity is the imbalance of the energy in the 
human body. In view of the fact the body requires a specific amount of calories or energy 
from the food for performing the basic life functions, the weight of the body remains the 
same in case the calories consumed is same as calories the used or burned by the body.  Due 
to various factors like genetics, habits of eating, the lifestyle and place of staying, emotions 
and attitudes, life habits, and income which include the intake of food and thus calories for 
the individuals (Van Der, 2007). 
As far as the data of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey done in the 
year 2010 is concerned it can be said that the 33% of the adults suffer from the condition of 
obesity.
