Back in Chapter 6 we learned that carbon dioxide is a by-product of cellular respiration, and discussed its role as an important greenhouse gas that influences global climate change. Chapter 18 explains the carbon cycle, a set of natural processes that repackage carbon into various forms including carbon dioxide. Since carbon dioxide is a natural gas that is part of a natural cycle, some have argued thatconcerns over increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are unfounded.
