    With increasing interaction among the people all across the globe and the influence of different cultures on each other, social research has helped social researchers and scientists to learn more about societies and people. As different socio-economic groups belonging to different parts of the world have different thinking and mentality regarding various social issues, it is vital to conduct social research to understand these issues form different perspectives so that these social issues could be mitigated on time before they create havoc in the society. Through this paper, social research and its significance will be discussed and drugs as social issue will be discussed and explained based on the knowledge gained from social research. The influence of the research on policies and practices and the changes will also be discussed through this paper.

    Social research is a method of conducting research regarding the society and the people, and is used by social researchers and scientists. Social scientists usually follow a systematic plan to conduct social research. As opined by Firebaugh (2018) it helps to create a better understanding of the thinking of people living separated by geographic and cultural boundaries. The methodology of conducting social research can be bifurcated into two:
Quantitative Designs: This method of research relies on statistical data and other quantifiable evidences. This design involves conducting intentional experiments to create reliable and valid claims. It is related to quantity of research.
Qualitative Designs: This involves methods such as direct observation to develop an understanding of the social phenomenon. It involves communicating with participants of analyzing the pre-existing texts. It is related to quality of research.
