Assignment Overview:
An Annotated Bibliography (also known as Annotated References Page) is a list of sources on a specific topic that includes an annotation for each source.
Annotated Bibliographies require active engagement of each source. By completing the Bibliography, students are encouraged to make connections between multiple sources and the topic/problem/solution that has been selected by the group. Through this review of sources, students can learn what has already been said about the topic, see where sources disagree, discover gaps in the research where more research is needed, and in general, the list will become part of the larger conversation within the group.
Annotated bibliographies are common college assignments; each one may have slightly different requirements, however, depending on what each instructor desires. For this assignment, each student will complete his/her own Annotated Bibliography on the issue/problem that each student has selected to focus on. By conducting secondary research, from a variety of possible options, each student must find at least five credible sources that cover the chosen topic. The five credible sources CANNOT all come from private websites (“.com” or “.ca”). Instead, students are encouraged to use a combination of print and online sources. Online sources should come from websites that come from “.org”, “.edu” and/or “.gov” websites.
Annotated Bibliography Requirements:
Each source annotation must include; 1. APA Citation, 2. A Summary of the information found within the source, 3. An Evaluation of the author’s credibility, and 4. An Analysis of the article’s overall usefulness to your group’s assignment and the relevance to the topic of choice.
Each entry will be roughly 1/2 page long (if not longer), so the Annotated Bibliography will be at least 2-3 pages long. You should organize the entries in alphabetical order based on the APA cited entry for each source (in each source entry the citation should come first, then the summary paragraph, then the evaluation paragraph, and finally the analysis paragraph).
This assignment does also require an APA style title page.
