In the last few decades, deep-sea mining has gained the significant amount of popularity in mining industry. This happened due to the availability of the potential minerals such as polymetallic nodules, polymetallic sulfides and cobalt rich crusts that are present at the seabed. These minerals are considered as the alternative sources of the main minerals such as Nickel, Lead, Cobalt, Copper, Zinc, Cadmium, Manganese and Iron (Sharma). Since the main metals present on the land have been used by industries and resulted in depletion, most of the industries using these metals are now dependent on the alternative sources. Over the period. Deep-sea mining has been exhausting minerals of the seabed and poorly impact on the environment. Since environmental impact of the deep-sea mining can last for very long years, yet people justify deep-sea mining as a chance to get the resources, which are critical for the future resources.

Until 2010, only 8 contractors were allowed to be engaged in the mining of the deep sea in Indian and Pacific oceans. For Pacific Ocean, France, Russia, Japan, China, Korea, Interoceanmetal and Germany. On the contrary, for Indian Ocean, India was allowed to do the mining. Later, five other countries get involved in the mining, these countries are Belgium, UK, Tonga, Nauru and Kiribati. It has been seen that around 300-600 sq. km disturbed for mining every year.
