Introduction
Mental health concerns and mental illness are related terms as prolonged mental health concerns such as stress, anxiety, and depression can cause mental illness. As mentioned by Szasz (2007), mental health include wide range of mental health conditions, which can be mood change, anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, behavioural disorders and much more. Sign and symptoms vary from individual to individual and some common symptoms include sad feeling, non-active participation, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts and much more. Ample amount of drugs and medications are available in the market, which target the symptoms the disease accordingly. Further, social su
oundings also affect the transmission and reluctance of the disease.
Difference in Nature between Physical and Mental Illness (5.1)
Health is the subject that takes into consideration the overall body functioning. A person who is physically fit and healthy does not imply its mental health to be same or vice-versa. A clear distinction can be made while considering the physical and mental health. As contradicted by Illich (1975), although both together forms a complete healthy body but mental health deals with the mind and emotions that include hormonal control also while physical health is the external health that is visible.
The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-10), 2011 suggests some of the features of both mental and physical health. In addition, it demarcates both based on some characters and observations (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). This can be explained on the basis that mental health is related with feeling good and having good psychological wellbeing and this is controlled by our emotions, which are further internally controlled by the hormones and externally by the environment, in which we persist.
