Part 1: Create a conflict check system using Microsoft Excel. Marked out
of 20.
1. Use the client list below.
2. Create 2 sheets in your book. On the second sheet enter the information from the client list into
the following categories if possible (First Name, Last Name, Phone Number, Applicant/Respondent,
and the Name of the Court or Tribunal). Use headers, and sort the list by Applicant/Respondent
first and then by Last name.
3. Make the list look attractive using boarders and colours. Remove the gridlines. And freeze the
headers at the top of the page.
4. On sheet 1 create a form where the user can type in the name and/or phone number of a
potential client. Have a visual response that says either Safe or Unsafe. Safe if there is no conflict
and unsafe if there is a conflict.
5. Make the entry form on sheet 1 look attractive and user friendly. Including short instructions on
how to use the conflict check system you have designed.
6. Rename the sheets as “Check Form” and “Client List”.

1. Johan Smith came into the office on Monday and wanted to hire us to sue his tenant at Landlord

Part 2: Draft an Invoice for Julian Singer. Marked out of 20.
1. Using the information provided in the scenario below create an invoice billing Julian for
services rendered.
2. Julian’s address is 2344 Yonge Street, North York, Unit 1103.
3. The invoice should include a detailed
eakdown of the work done, including total owed both
with and without tax (at the Ontario rate).
4. The invoice must be automated so when you enter the hours it automatically calculates the
totals using the information provided below and is easy to use by anyone even if they did not
create the invoice. (Use the L and P method shown in class and adapted for this scenario).
5. The invoice should be well designed, attractive, and include a picture.
6. The invoice must include the name and address of your law firm.

Scenario:
We represented Julian for 5 months culminating with a successful hearing at the
Employment Standards Board. The case was handled by a senior lawyer who spent 4 hours
on the case. She asked a paralegal to do the research and it took the paralegal 2.5 hours. In
addition, she asked a law clerk to fill out the court forms for one hour. The firm hourly
ates are $350 for lawyer time, $150 for paralegal time, and $75 for law clerk time.
