Assignment 2: Decision-making and Philosophy Part II: Philosophy and the Community
Whereas Part I focused on how you as an individual are impacted by a particular decision, Part II focuses on the individual as a member of a community. Thus, you will write a eight- to ten-page research paper based upon a current event/pressing social issue that is relevant to your community. You should address the following points in your analysis:
  • Identify a social issue
  • Identify news articles that present at least two different points-of-view on the issue
  • Explain why the issue is relevant to your community
  • Explain the nature of religious belief and identify the social norms and religious values/beliefs that inform the various perspectives on the issue
  • Explain a relevant ethical theory
  • Explain a relevant political theory
Analyze how the chosen theories might approach the issue, including the relevant considerations and the ultimate conclusion reached. You will be expected to explain the relevant theories with support from the course texts (with particular emphasis placed on the primary texts) and from pre-approved secondary sources (including, but not limited to, the course text, online lectures, and a list of suggested online resources).

Introduction
Abortion is defined as terminating the pregnancy by removing the fetus or the em
yo
efore conceiving. It can occur suddenly due to an accident, which is known as misca
iage
or it can be done intentionally. Abortion term is specifically refe
ed when it is intentionally
induced. The issue of abortion has a very long history and has been one of the most sensitive
and critical social issues since ages. It has attracted a lot of controversy and debate and issues
elated to ethics, morals, biology, philosophy and legal are continuously connected to it.
There are also various perceptions regarding abortion being right or wrong and hence
the legal system has made several laws that accept it in under certain conditions and takes it
as a criminal offense under several conditions. Various beliefs that make a perception
egarding abortion include the governmental laws, rights of the mother ca
ying the unborn
and the ethics related to the religion (D. Gordon, 1999, pp. 102).
The social groups who support abortion considers women‟s health, family planning
and reproductive rights as their focus and the opposite group considering it as an offence and
demand a tighter regulation over the issue and considers right to live as their main agenda
and thus comparing abortion to murder. Thus, the issue of abortion is a topic that covers a
wide range of perceptions and in the following portion, the ethical and political
considerations of it will be discussed.

quotes that various surveys have shown that most Americans wants abortion to be legalized
as people have different personal interests other than the social and religious norms and
ethics.
Article 2

www.priestsforlife.org/articles/abortionachoiceagainstwomen.html
This article represents the ill-effects of abortion and contradicts the fact completely
that it is in favor of women‟s rights. It clearly states that abortion is an act that harms,
exploits and degrades the women. It has considered researches where the reason behind
abortion was known from the women and was found that there were very few incidents in
