Global Justice (often referred to as Anti-globalisation)

Environmental

Gender and/or Sexuality

Religious or Faith Based

You are welcome to propose an alternative topic area, but you should have had this approved by your tutor before you submit your Research Proposal. If you change topicsbetween your Research Proposal and Research Report, you must have the written approval of your tutor.

Your Research Proposalmustinclude the following elements:

    • Preliminary literature review (i.e., an initialcritical literature review of the scholarlyliterature related to your topic)
    • Your proposed research question(s) (i.e., that your project will seek to answer)
    • Your proposed methodology and methodsfor your project(i.e., your theoretical framework and methods for collection and analysis of the data that will address your research question)

Your research proposal sets out and justifiesthe original primary research project that you intend to carry out during the semester, the outcomes of which you will subsequently submit in your research report. Thus, your research proposal needs to be for a project that you can feasibly conduct, and that is not centrally reliant on secondary source material (i.e., other scholars' previous research) for its findings. Attendance at lectures and participation in tutorials are highly recommended as these sessions will be focused, throughout the semester, on scaffolding the requirements and expectationsfor the Research Proposal and Research Report.

Your Research Proposal will be graded holistically by the extent to which it meets the following criteria:

  • Feasibility of the project
  • Extent and relevance of the research
  • Critical evaluation of the relevant literature
  • Justification of the selected methodology and methods
  • Quality of written expression
  • Correct and consistent referencing
