Introduction
There are several factors which influence or affect the health of individuals and communities. Individuals are healthy or not is determined by their environment and circumstances. Factors such as where we reside, the environment of the localities, genetics, relationship with friends and family all these becomes a contributing factor to a large extent which impacts the health condition. Arthritis is one of the most common problems faced by older people between the age group of 65-70 years. According to survey more than 50 million adults have arthritis problem. There are around 200 types of arthritis some of the common types of arthritis are Inflammatory arthritis, Metabolic arthritis, Degenerative or mechanical arthritis, Infectious arthritis ,Soft tissue musculoskeletal pain, Connective tissue disease, Back pain. The symptoms are stiffness, severe pain, swelling and decreased range of motion. It was found that with the increase in age the problem of arthritis arises and so the pain, which decreases the quality of life leading to depression. Older adults are prone to poor health condition due to decreased immune system and many other underlying diseases. Older adults are also effected due to less energy and less body movement. According to reports women are more likely to get affected with arthritis than men. Obesity has been demonstrated to co
elate with Osteoarthritis of the knee in 55- to 64-year-old women (Lawrence,1977).Arthritis has been recognized as a prime cause of disability amongst older persons. The onset of arthritis disease is yet to be known and mostly has been identified with the older age group. The risk factor includes overweight or obesity, excessive amount of consumption of alcohol ,hypertension and stress, a diet which is not balanced and healthy, poor kidney function, use of diuretics, some common medicines.
Determinants of Health
The determinants of health can be defined as the range of social, personal, economic and environmental factors that can influence the health condition. Therefore, these factors play a very crucial role to maintain a proper health condition and wellbeing amongst older adults. The factors may sufficient access to nutritious food, safe housing, stable employment and income.
